Membrane technology has the characteristics of good retention, but it suffers from membrane fouling and high water treatment costs. Utilizing the microfiltration properties and low cost of powdered diatomite, a dynamic membrane technology using diatomite was developed. Diatomite forms a dynamic membrane on the support system, which has the precision of microfiltration and ensures the turbidity of the effluent. By using diatomite as a carrier for microorganisms, bio-diatomite is formed to enhance the removal of pollutants in water. Consequently, bio-diatomite dynamic membrane devices, cross-flow tubular diatomite dynamic membrane devices, bio-diatomite dynamic membrane-ultrafiltration reactors, and tubular components were developed.
