The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry is one of the world's largest energy-consuming sectors, with energy consumption increasing by 5% annually in the coming years. It is imperative to advocate for efficient, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly green communication services and promote sustainable development in the ICT industry. As an important part of ICT, the issue of energy consumption in communication networks has become increasingly prominent. For communication backbone networks, the rapid expansion of network scale and the continuous increase in the number of devices have led to significant increases in energy consumption. IP over WDM (Internet Protocol over Wavelength Division Multiplexing) networks are a common framework for communication backbone networks, characterized by wide coverage, large data volumes, and high transmission rates, making them suitable for ultra-large IP backbone networks. Implementing energy-saving mechanisms in IP over WDM networks and evaluating their performance, as well as constructing green IP over WDM networks, are of great significance for achieving energy savings in communication networks. This project aims to: (1) Implement a multi-objective collaborative green energy saving mechanism. In response to the limitations of existing energy saving mechanisms based on individual conditions and specific system attributes, a hierarchical design is adopted with network energy consumption and performance as the objective functions, taking into account parameters such as network node attributes, traffic, working hours, blocking rate, and delay. This establishes a multi-objective collaborative energy saving mechanism that incorporates energy-saving mechanisms like sleep mode, optical bypass, traffic diversion, and energy-aware routing; (2) Achieve multi-objective and multi-level energy saving evaluation. Addressing the issue of single evaluation factors in existing energy saving assessment methods and poor comparability of energy saving effects, this project applies the Network Hierarchical Analysis method combined with fuzzy mathematics theory. The fairness, optimality, and robustness of the energy saving mechanism are used as the hierarchical analysis model, with network energy consumption, energy saving ratio, traffic, blocking rate, and delay as the objectives. Establish an energy-saving evaluation method using network node attributes, working hours, dynamic services, and other influencing parameters. This project provides a theoretical basis and implementation method for effective energy saving in IP OVER WDM networks, achieving 'green energy saving mechanisms and green energy saving evaluations,' with good economic and social benefits. The project has obtained multiple research results and national invention patents, and it is expected to be collaborated on through a comprehensive transfer.
