This project belongs to the field of environmental science and technology, specifically in the direction of water pollution prevention and control engineering. With the general improvement of human socio-economic capabilities and the gradual enhancement of medical and nursing awareness, the use volume and scope of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are also rapidly expanding. PPCPs, as a category of 'new pollutants,' are continuously entering the environment. Due to their bioactivity, bioaccumulation, and quasi-persistence, they have long-term potential and irreversible impacts on the environment; PPCP pollution has become an important factor threatening global ecological environmental safety and human health. This project systematically constructed a full process environmental pollution control technology system for PPCPs, achieving breakthrough results in key technologies such as source control at the production end of PPCPs, usage process inhibition, and deep environmental purification. Significantly promoted technological innovation and equipment renewal in the field of PPCPs pollution control in China. The main inventions are as follows: 1. Created the 'Typical PPCPs Whole Process Environmental Pollution Control Key Technology System', which solved the problem of the lack of technical systems in the current PPCPs pollution control field. It achieved a sequential reduction in the concentration of PPCPs pollutants from the production source, use process, to the entire environmental purification process, ensuring the quality and safety of water environment. 2. Invented a new process of iron carbon microelectrolysis-hydrolysis acidification-dynamic membrane deep treatment, which solved the technical difficulties of poor biodegradability of PPCPs production wastewater and low mud-water separation efficiency, achieving efficient and low-consumption deep treatment of production wastewater and high-efficiency control at the source of PPCPs production. 3. Based on the emission characteristics of PPCPs during their use process, constructed hospital wastewater, The multi-barrier control technology for PPCPs in livestock and poultry wastewater and municipal wastewater has solved the problems of low removal efficiency and scarce control technologies in traditional wastewater treatment processes. It achieves efficient PPCP control and technological innovation while meeting the discharge standards for conventional pollutants. Fourth, it has invented new environmental functional materials with specific adsorption and high-efficiency degradation of PPCPs, which have resolved key technical difficulties such as severe substrate interference and low removal efficiency in the reduction of low-concentration PPCPs in the environment, achieving deep purification of trace and difficult-to-degrade PPCPs in the environment and technological equipment innovation. The project has applied for 38 Chinese patents, 1 US patent, and been granted 24 Chinese invention patents; published 101 academic papers, including 63 SCI-indexed ones; and published 3 monographs. Selected as one of the first batch of "Ten Thousand Talents" in national science and technology innovation leaders, two individuals from the Ministry of Education's New Century Talent Program, and one individual from Shanghai's Advanced Individual in Environmental Protection; awarded the He Lianghe Li Foundation Science and Technology Youth Innovation Award and one National Natural Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scientists. The above achievements have significantly improved China's PPCPs pollution control technology level and promoted academic progress in this field. Through industry-academia-research cooperation, these technologies have been applied to more than 100 PPCPs production wastewater, hospital wastewater, livestock and poultry wastewater, and municipal wastewater treatment projects in more than ten provinces and cities including Shanghai, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangsu, Henan, Yunnan, Shandong, and Inner Mongolia. The treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater amounts to 14.15 million tons per year, and municipal wastewater is 128 million tons per year, effectively driving the innovation and upgrading of China's PPCPs pollution control technology system. During the three years from 2016 to 2018, the added value increased by 1.17 billion yuan, profits reached 290 million yuan, and taxes amounted to 88.12 million yuan. The PPCPs process pollution control technology system of this project has achieved international advanced levels in terms of investment, operational energy consumption, and secondary pollution control, making significant technological innovations. The economic and social benefits are remarkable, with broad application prospects.
