Introduction to the Results: Kitchen waste grease is an important source of pollution. Each year, the country consumes about 30 million tons of edible oil, of which 20-30% is kitchen waste grease. In addition, there is a large amount of animal waste grease. The disposal and reuse of this type of waste grease are significant environmental and food safety issues related to people's livelihoods. The project is based on the major strategic needs of urban domestic waste treatment and comprehensive utilization, with the goal of managing kitchen waste grease. It focuses on the production equipment for biodiesel from kitchen waste grease and key automotive technologies. After more than ten years of joint research and development by academia, industry, and government, it has invented a pretreatment process suitable for China's kitchen waste grease and a solid-catalyzed biodiesel production reactor. Two sets of production equipment capable of producing 30,000 tons of biodiesel per year have been established with independent intellectual property rights; it has also invented a low-cost, high-performance emulsifier. Research and developed a high-stability biodiesel production process, and established two sets of complete emulsion diesel production equipment with an annual output of 3,000 tons; invented and researched low NOx and low particulate emission aftertreatment devices for biodiesel engines; solved key technologies in the matching of biodiesel and mixed fuels with engines from aspects such as compatibility of diesel engine fuel system materials, combustion characteristics, optimal mixing ratio for large-scale application, and intelligent control management systems for electronic controlled diesel engines. For the first time in China, a closed-loop management model for the promotion of 'collection, transportation, treatment, and use' of kitchen waste oil to produce biodiesel was established, completely avoiding its return to the dining table. The project has obtained 22 authorized patents, including 8 authorized invention patents. The project's achievements have been applied in units such as Shanghai Zhongqi Environmental Protection, with new sales revenue of 3.305 billion yuan and new profits of 567 million yuan in the past three years. New tax revenue of 144 million yuan was added. Technical specifications for biodiesel fuel vehicles were formulated, and participated in the formulation of one industry standard for biodiesel raw material oil and two technical standards for Shanghai's biodiesel alliance. The project results have been included in the 'Biodiesel Industry Development Policy' by the National Energy Administration, and are currently participating in drafting local policies for the application of biodiesel made from kitchen waste grease on public buses in Shanghai. In 2013 alone, Shanghai disposed of nearly 30,000 tons of kitchen waste grease into biodiesel, reducing CO2 emissions by 90,000 tons and PM emissions by 15 tons. This has solved the pollution problem of kitchen waste grease and completely avoided its return to the dining table, with significant social benefits.
