Improving the level of urban public transportation services is an urgent matter. Bus arrival time prediction and its information service system have extremely important practical value for improving bus services. This system is one of the significant achievements of the major project "Shanghai Comprehensive Transportation Information Service Demonstration System Based on Grid Technology and Its Key Technology Research" by the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission. It utilizes original positioning data from GPS-based bus vehicle monitoring and dispatch systems, combines historical data with real-time data to predict bus arrival times, and outputs through a publishing module interface, which is transmitted to web pages, electronic bus station signs, or other various information terminals for display. This achievement is aimed at serving the public commuters, bus companies (operational scheduling, planning), information service providers (electronic station signs, mobile TV, multimedia, etc.), achieving the prediction of static line data, The management and maintenance of dynamic data, statistical analysis and prediction of bus travel speed/travel time by time period and road section, as well as the function of predicting the distance to the station and arrival time for buses. The results have been tested and preliminarily applied in cities such as Shanghai, Suzhou, and Liuzhou.
