Traffic congestion has become a severe issue faced by Chinese cities, and an effective traffic signal control system can economically and efficiently improve the capacity of intersections and their networks. This system is based on national key basic research planning (973) projects, national high-tech development (863) planning projects, and National Natural Science Foundation topics. It proposes a dynamic coordinated control technology and system for traffic flow based on coordination among intersection groups, dynamically combines strongly related intersections for coordinated optimization according to actual traffic problems, uses network resources to solve node traffic issues, and enhances the pertinence and effectiveness of coordinated control. The technology also organically integrates pedestrian crossing coordination control, public transport priority coordination control, as well as ramp control at expressway entrances and exits, providing a holistic solution and system for urban signal optimization. Its achievements have been applied in Hangzhou city area, The traffic police departments of Dingqiao District and Changzhou, Zhangjiagang, Taicang and other places have promoted the application.
