Pancreatic cancer is known as the 'king of cancers' due to its insidious onset, high incidence, and aggressive nature. In particular, adenosquamous carcinoma, which is a mixture of both adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, is not only more dangerous but also has a poor prognosis. Given that it is proteins, rather than genes, that truly function within cells, research on RNA, which acts as a messenger between DNA and proteins, has gained significant attention in recent years. After three and a half years of dedicated research, the research team made a major discovery: UPF1, which plays a key role in the NMD pathway of adenosquamous carcinoma, undergoes extensive mutations, causing the glandular cells to regress embryonically, leading to the failure of the NMD pathway. The research results have been successfully applied in the clinical diagnosis of 'pancreatic adenosquamous carcinoma'. The achievement is not only suitable for rapid confirmation of this type of tumor, but also lays the foundation for further in-depth studies. These studies are expected to provide scientific support for the treatment of this tumor.
