Early diagnosis and treatment of cancer are urgent challenges that scientists around the world must overcome. Currently, clinical cancer treatments still commonly use oral or injected anticancer chemotherapy drugs, which are systemic in nature and have severe toxic side effects, as well as being expensive and having low drug utilization rates. Arterial embolization therapy has shown good results for certain tumors, but the current embolization agents in China mainly rely on imports from abroad and are also very expensive. This project, supported by a national science and technology support plan topic, has developed a new type of polylactic acid-based biodegradable embolic microsphere material that can be degraded and absorbed within the human body. The preparation technology for this microsphere material has been granted an invention patent and is currently collaborating with relevant enterprises to apply for innovative medical devices, with the hope of achieving technology transfer and industrialization. In addition, this project, under the support of a national 863 plan topic, has developed another anti-tumor targeted nanomedicine carrier material. The preparation technology of the core material has also been granted a patent for invention. The project team is currently collaborating with several hospitals to evaluate the biological safety and efficacy of targeted nanomedicine systems prepared using this carrier material. The purpose of this project is to stabilize and scale up the preparation technologies of the two biomedical materials developed on the basis of existing technical achievements, and to complete the development of related downstream medical products in collaboration with cooperating enterprises, hospitals, and other units, ultimately successfully realizing the industrialization of the material preparation technology and related products.
