Carbon aerogels have become a new ideal electrode material due to their excellent electrical conductivity (5-40 s/cm) among similar aerogel materials and their high specific surface area. Current research abroad is focused on applying carbon aerogels to supercapacitor (double-layer capacitor) electrodes, gas diffusion electrodes, fuel cell electrodes, rechargeable battery electrodes, etc. Tongji University has also been conducting research in this area for nearly ten years and has achieved certain results. The goal of the research is to use carbon aerogels as electrodes to develop a prototype seawater desalination device and to optimize various parameters. This material is a typical environmentally friendly and energy-saving material, which is beneficial for protecting the environment and comprehensive resource utilization. The research results can be applied in fields such as seawater desalination and new energy devices.
