In 2018, the total output value of the construction industry reached 23.5 trillion yuan, accounting for 26.1% of GDP, with a year-on-year growth of 9.9%. However, China's construction industry faces problems such as low production efficiency, high energy consumption, and severe pollution. In 2017, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development proposed in the "13th Five-Year Plan" Action Plan for Prefabricated Building Construction that by 2020, prefabricated buildings will account for 15% of the new construction area nationwide, indicating that the construction industry is undergoing comprehensive transformation and upgrading. At the same time, prominent issues regarding intellectual property rights (IPR) in software and hardware exist in China's construction industry, including a lack of independent intellectual property rights, which poses a choke threat to the information security of major national projects. After more than ten years of scientific research and technological breakthroughs supported by national science and technology plans such as Shanghai, China has achieved a full process from digital design to robot construction, overcoming a platform for highly precise prefabricated multifunctional robotic equipment. Multiple innovative robotic processes have been realized. The innovation achievements are as follows: For the first time, a theory of coupled performance-based construction for building robots was proposed, and an integrated software design and construction with independent intellectual property rights was developed. A holistic prefabrication and assembly theory from digital design to robot construction was proposed. The FURobot software platform was created, and reverse motion algorithms for multimodal and coupled simulation of robots were developed, breaking through the bottleneck of mapping and transformation from three-dimensional geometric modeling of buildings to robot construction. The construction of a characteristic town in Chengdu's Zhuli Community Center was completed in 45 days with an 85% prefabrication and assembly rate. The problem of "disconnection" between design and construction in intelligent construction was overcome, and an efficient prefabrication and assembly process with "data precision control" was created. An invention of the world's highest precision Ultra-large scale "Holographic Intelligent Sensing Truss Building Robot Prefabrication Assembly Equipment Platform." It was the first to create an 18-axis linkage robot group with a working area of 11M*8M*4M, achieving a processing speed of 100mm/s and a positioning accuracy of 0.1mm; through multi-sensor Veno optimization model, it realized intelligent perception throughout the construction system, enhancing the customization and precision processing capabilities of prefabricated components. For complex operations, tools such as cutting, grinding, sawing, sewing, masonry, welding, and printing were invented, comprehensively upgrading the intelligent construction process. It achieved high-precision construction of the ultra-large scale hyperbolic curtain wall for the 250-meter Shanghai West Bank Artificial Intelligence Building's twin towers. It conquered the hardware problem in the prefabrication industry of "not being able to produce." Achieved the 'Intelligent Precision' heart of prefabricated construction hardware. Pioneered the innovative process of multi-material intelligent robot prefabrication and assembly, and upgraded the production system. Created a unique 18-axis robot linkage processing technology for special nodes in large cross-section/irregular glued wood (span 48M); established a robot dynamics brick masonry process; invented a multi-material 3D printing process for construction robots; innovated a large-scale curved steel structure robot continuous welding production system. Achieved the integrated construction of a 9000m2 large span irregular exhibition hall at the Shanghai West Bank Artificial Intelligence Conference in 100 days, from design to prefabrication and assembly. Overcame the technical challenge of 'low efficiency' in multi-material processes in intelligent construction. Achieved industrialization and upgrading of 'high-efficiency precision manufacturing'. Authorized 30 national invention patents and 29 software copyrights; published 11 books and over 190 papers; participated in the compilation of 6 national standards and 1 industry standard. Highly praised by Professor Anthony Picon of Harvard University and Professor Philippe Bloch, Director of the National Laboratory for Computational Infrastructure Science (NCCR) in Switzerland, for 'leading global digital construction technology practice'; after appraisal by five domestic academicians and masters, it was determined that 'the overall technical level of the project's achievements has reached an international advanced level, with the multifunctional building robot equipment platform reaching an international leading level'. In 2019, Yuan Feng was appointed as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ( Professor of Visiting at MIT. His achievements have been applied to more than 20 high-difficulty projects at home and abroad, including the Venice Biennale China Pavilion and the Suzhou Expo Wood Structure Enterprise Pavilion. In the past three years, he has added an economic benefit of 1.13 billion yuan, with significant economic and social benefits.
