Project Introduction: Energy conservation and emission reduction are life-and-death issues facing the automotive industry. The national energy strategy and regulations have set stringent standards for the energy efficiency and emissions of automobiles, placing a "tightening spell" on the automotive sector. The 'Passenger Car Energy Consumption Accounting Method' issued by the National Development and Reform Commission stipulates that by 2020, the average fuel consumption of passenger cars in China should not exceed 5.0 liters per hundred kilometers. Currently, automobile companies basically cannot meet this standard. Under the current conditions, large-scale development of new energy vehicles is still premature; more work needs to be done on the improvement and renewal of traditional vehicles. The 48V start-stop system was born against this backdrop, by recycling the energy from car braking and deceleration to be used for start-stop and idling at intersections, which can reduce emissions by 20% while saving energy consumption by 15%. It is considered the most practical and feasible approach for traditional cars to cope with new regulations. However, start-stop systems have extremely stringent requirements on power sources. The United States Advanced Battery Alliance (USABC) has established standards for start-stop power sources, which mainly include an energy density greater than 25Wh/kg, a power density greater than 0.6kW/kg, and a cycle life of more than 150,000 times. Currently, all power sources on the market cannot truly meet the requirements of start-stop systems. Under joint research with Florida State University, we successfully developed a new type of lithium ion super power source that achieves high energy density (30Wh/kg), high power density (3kW/kg), and ultra-long life (110,000 cycles at 60°C). This lithium ion super power source is currently the only one that can truly meet the requirements of start-stop systems. Current application status and prospects: Lithium-ion super power sources are mainly developed around 48V automotive start-stop power systems and are currently the only type of power source that can meet the USABC automotive start-stop power standards. The potential domestic market is roughly $20 billion per year. At the same time, lithium-ion super power sources can be used in other fields, including but not limited to: power compensation for pure electric vehicles (especially pure electric passenger cars) and hybrid vehicles. After adopting power compensation power sources, the lifespan of pure electric vehicles (especially pure electric passenger cars) and hybrid vehicles can increase by 40%. The lithium-ion super power sources we develop are one-seventh the cost of mainstream manufacturers, and at the same time, their weight and volume are also one-seventh of mainstream products, which can significantly reduce costs and improve the performance of pure electric vehicles.
