Boron carbide is characterized by its high hardness, second only to the hardest known material, diamond, and cubic boron nitride. It possesses excellent wear resistance. Additionally, boron carbide has a low specific gravity, weighing only one-third that of bulletproof steel plates, and it also has a significant neutron absorption cross-section. Therefore, it finds wide applications in fields such as mechanics, military protection, nuclear power plants, chemical industry, and aerospace. B4C belongs to covalent compounds, and the preparation of boron carbide products is difficult, with only Western countries like the United States possessing this technology. Currently, we sinter boron carbide bulletproof ceramics at temperatures between 1800-2000°C and pressures of 20-60MPa, achieving and exceeding military requirements in terms of various properties. However, the production cost of boron carbide ceramics remains relatively high.
