This technology focuses on improving the extraction process of a high-performance nonionic natural surfactant, saponin from tea leaves. Saponin has strong foaming, emulsifying, dispersing, and wetting properties, and is almost unaffected by water hardness; moreover, it also possesses physiological activities such as anti-permeability, anti-inflammation, analgesia, and anticancer. Currently, China can only produce crude saponin, which contains low levels of saponin and many impurities, thus limiting its use. This achievement improves the previously pioneering solvent extraction method for refining crude saponin and expands it to industrial production scale (annual output of 1000kg). By controlling the incomplete extraction of saponin and the conditions of extraction, it ensures that refined saponin has high purity and light color. The process is reasonable, with easy control of conditions, non-toxic extraction solvents that can be recycled without environmental pollution, suitable for industrial production, and is a domestic first. The refined tea saponin foam obtained is rich, lasting, and has strong cleaning power. It is an excellent natural surfactant suitable for use in various daily chemical product formulations.
