Aluminum-air batteries have an energy density of 300-400Wh/kg, making them the largest among currently producible batteries and employing a mechanical 'charging' method that is extremely fast. Utilizing aluminum-air batteries can meet the requirements for extended range in electric vehicles and drones. Aluminum-air batteries are chemical power sources composed of air (oxygen) as the positive electrode, aluminum as the negative electrode, and sodium hydroxide as the electrolyte. At the negative electrode, aluminum undergoes an electrochemical reaction with the OH- ions in the electrolyte (negative electrode reaction), releasing electrons. At the same time, the catalyst in the GDR (gas diffusion electrode or air negative electrode) reaction layer comes into contact with the electrolyte and oxygen from the air that diffuses into the battery, absorbing electrons and undergoing an electrochemical reaction (positive electrode reaction). Advantages of aluminum-air batteries include: 1. High energy density: The theoretical energy density of aluminum is 8100Wh/Kg. The actual specific energy reaches 350 to 400 Wh/kg, which is 4-6 times that of lead-acid batteries and 2-3 times that of lithium-ion batteries; 2. The battery structure is diverse, the operation is simple, and the service life is long; 3. Circular economy: For ordinary small cars, it consumes 4 kg of sulfuric acid and 5 L of water per 100 km, with a recycling cost of less than 10 yuan per kilogram; 4. Green and environmentally friendly: non-toxic, no harmful gases, does not pollute the environment; 5. Abundant raw materials: Aluminum is the most abundant metal element on Earth, with low prices.
