WIPO GREEN Urban Acceleration Project Takes Bold Steps to Propel Green Technology Innovation in the Yangtze River Delta

December27, 2024, Shanghai – At the 7th Yangtze River Delta International InnovationChallenge Co-creation Conference, the Green Technology Bank, in collaborationwith the National Eastern Tech-Transfer Center and the Shanghai InternationalTechnology Exchange Market, successfully hosted a dedicated session on WIPOGREEN green technologies. This is one of the flagship initiatives under theWIPO GREEN Acceleration Project.

WIPO GREEN, established in 2013, has been dedicated tobridging global providers and seekers of green technologies. In 2019, itlaunched the WIPO GREEN Acceleration Project, a proactive initiative designedto facilitate demand-driven green technology matchmaking, with the overarchinggoal of advancing global sustainable development. Under the auspices of a 2023collaboration agreement, Shanghai officially joined the WIPO GREEN AccelerationProject, with the city's Intellectual Property Office and Science andTechnology Commission guiding the Green Technology Bank in spearheading theWIPO GREEN Urban Acceleration Project (Shanghai).

This year’s Innovation Challenge, co-hosted by the Shanghai Science and TechnologyCommission and the Science and Technology Departments of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, andAnhui provinces, adopted the innovative approach of "businesses posechallenges, universities provide solutions." The event garneredenthusiastic participation from technology enterprises and researchinstitutions, creating a critical platform for regional green technologydevelopment and reinforcing collaborative innovation and development within theYangtze River Delta.


At the WIPO GREEN session, experts from East China Normal University, the ShanghaiInstitute of Ceramics

(part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), and theShanghai Aircraft Development and Research Institude and other institutionspresented a range of cutting-edge technologies and solutions tailored toindustry needs. Responding to challenges posed by leading companies such asTrina Solar, Mann+Hummel, Shanghai Huayi Environmental Protection TechnologyCo., Ltd., these breakthroughs included innovations in transparent conductivefilms, next-generation photovoltaic cells, and state-of-the-art airpurification systems. This not only highlighted the Yangtze River Delta'simmense potential in green technology innovation but also created newopportunities for enterprises in the region to connect with global greentechnology supply and demand.


Looking ahead, the Green Technology Bank will continue to advance initiatives under theWIPO GREEN Urban Acceleration Project (Shanghai), driving the integration ofgreen technologies into various domains such as urban development,environmental protection, and resource optimization. As the project progresses,it is anticipated that more green technology breakthroughs will transition intopractical applications, providing critical support for the sustainabledevelopment of cities.
