With an aim to prevent aging of rubber or plastic components, the baking temperature of the work-piece must be reduced. Therefore, the development of cathodic electrophoretic coatings that are thermally curable at low temperature has become the key to solve the above problems. In this project, we have thoroughly studied the traditional epoxy polyurethane cathodic electrophoretic coatings. Such coating is usually cross-linked and cured by unblocking the curing agent. Given the fact that the unblocking temperature of the curing agent is related to the type of blocking agent and the type of isocyanate, with an aim to meet the requirements of curing at low temperature, an appropriate blocking agent and isocyanate shall be selected to develop a crosslinking agent to allow resin to be cured and cross-linked at a lower temperature. But at the same time, leveling properties of the resin at this temperature shall also be considered. By lowering the baking temperature, the cathodic electrophoretic coatings that are thermally curable at low temperature can be cured at 125°C. As the curing temperature decreases, the energy consumption required for baking also reduced. In this sense, this product can effectively reduce energy consumption and emission. Meanwhile, baking at a lower temperature will not adversely affect plastic or rubber components contained in complex work-pieces. Therefore, epoxy polyurethane cathodic electrophoretic coatings that are thermally curable at low temperature can meet people's requirements for energy saving and environmental protection.
