Promoting the International Development of Green Technology Bank (GTB)

The Opening Ceremony of Green Technology Bank Bangkok Center was held in Bangkok onthe afternoon of May 1st. Gong Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai, and KraisidTontisirin, chairman of the Policy Board of the Thailand Science, Research, andInnovation Commission (TSRI), unveiled the first overseas branch of GTB jointly. Luo Dajin, Director of the Science and Technology Commissionof Shanghai Municipality, Wang Zhen, Director of Green Technology Bank Administration Center, and Zhu Junhao, GM of Green Technology Bank Co.,Ltd, attended the unveiling ceremony.

        Green technology could serve as a tie to further strengthen the relationship between China and Thailand in the new era, facilitating the promotion of green solutions in Thailand and other ASEAN countries, said Shanghai Mayor GongZheng. Thailand based Green Technology Bank Bangkok Center aims to

promote the better transfer of advanced and applicable green technology to ASEAN countries,thus building a  bridge for promoting international cooperation in green technology.

Green Technology Bank is an international cooperation platform established by Chinese government, with its aim to implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and promote thehigh-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative and the community with a shared future for mankind through green technology service. It was headquartered in Shanghai and founded in 2017 under the leadership of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shanghai Municipal Government. With the support of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, Green Technology Bank, in collaboration with CAS Innovation Cooperation Center (Bangkok), started building overseas branch, thus promoting the international exchanges and cooperation in green technology.

The delegation led by director Wang Zhen visited Samudhabhipat Foundation of Thailand after the unveiling ceremony. They communicated with chairman Pichaion marine aquaculture, hydrogen production from biomass, supplementary light for rubber plantation, vaccine R&D and production technology, and the Thailand Green Technology Exhibition to be held in the second half of the year. Bothparties had further

in depth conversation in this return visit after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Green Technology Innovation Cooperation in February this year. The next step will be to discuss specifics in technical cooperation between the two sides. Director Wang Zhen led delegation also held discussions with professors from Chiang Mai University on vaccine R&Dcooperation.


On May 3-5, the delegation led by director Wang Zhen went to Cambodia for exchanges with Cambodia Development Center and  the Ministry of Environment (Cambodia). They also conducted research on a Kampot Ultrafiltration Plant, the demonstration project of Green Technology Bank (GTB) in Cambodia. Cambodia Development Center and the Ministry of Environment (Cambodia) expressed the irappreciation to GTB for its dedication to promoting and implementing the greentechnology innovation  and application. They not only show cased the irwillingness to collaborate with GTB on green technology discussions, academic exchanges and interactions, dual carbon strategy research, and other issues;but also intention to visit  Shanghai-based Green Technology Bank, conductin-depth research, and explore the feasibility of building GTB Phnom Penhbranch. To solve water supply  shortage in Kampot, Kampot Ultrafiltration Plant,constructed by Shanghai Micro-purification Technology Co., Ltd, was built under the leadership of Cham Prasidh, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation (Cambodia), and Water Supply Authority. The project also received support from the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, and Green Technology Bank Administration Center. So far, a water plant with supply capacity of 5000 m3/d has been built in Kampot, and another one with supply capacity of 2000 m3/dis planned to be built.

Internationalization is one of the principlesand purposes of Green Technology Bank. GTB is dedicated to promoting domestic advanced and applicable green technology to countries along the Belt and RoadInitiative and introducing foreign advanced technology to China. Since its foundation, GTB has established cooperation with multiple international organizations, and technological innovation institutions in multiple countries,achieving fruitful results in  green technology exchanges, sharing of green technology information and achievements, promotion of cooperation projects, and others.
