Formulating Policies and Standards for International Cooperation on Green Technology

The Green Technology Policy International Symposium,organized by the Administration Center of Green Technology Bank (ShanghaiScience and Technology Exchange Center, hereinafter referred to as “the Center”),took place in a hybrid format with physical and online participation on July 13in Shanghai. Representatives of government departments and institutions fromThailand, Israel, Luxembourg, Kazakhstan and Singapore attended the meetingremotely, whilst local research institutions and organizations such as ShanghaiAcademy of Social Sciences, Tongji University, Shanghai Institute of AdvancedStudies of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Xinjiang Zhongya Internet IncubatorCo., Ltd took part in the event on site.Mr. WANG Zhen, Director of the Center,and Mr. BI Cong, Deputy Director of the Social Development Department ofShanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, attended the meeting anddelivered remarks.


 

With the theme of “Strengthening Research on Policyand Standard and Promoting International Cooperation on Green Technology",the symposium facilitated in-depth discussions on the policies and standardsthat support the development of green technology in various countries. Theexperts and representatives shared and discussed key strategic plans andsupport policies including the European Green Deal, Luxembourg GreenTechInnovation Initiative, Kazakhstan Green Bridge Program, Thailand RenewableEnergy Policy and Carbon Neutrality Roadmap of Israel, with a view todeveloping green technology and fostering cooperation.

The mission of Green Technology Bank is to promotegreen technology through the Belt and Road Initiative, under the premise thatsuch practice complies with the international rules as well as the legal andtechnical standards and requirements in each country. In order to furtherimprove service and international outreach of the Green Technology Bank, theCenter, with the support of Shanghai Municipal Science and TechnologyCommission, has launched a research project on "Green Technology andTechnical Standards in Countries along the Belt and Road Initiative" since2019. As the research progresses, the Center has established soundcommunication channels with research institutions and government departments ofseveral countries to share information and expand the internationalcollaboration network of green technology. As a next step, the Center willdiligently review the outcomes of this symposium, conduct research analysis andformulate recommendations, so as to provide services for enterprises andpromote international transfer and commercialization of green technologies.
